Top 5 Worst Foods (According to Liz)

5. Kimchi. They say you acquire a taste for kimchi after eating it a few times, but I have yet to experience any affectionate feelings for this pickled cabbage dish that is served with absolutely everything here in Korea (breakfast, lunch and dinner!). I still force myself to eat it on a daily basis, however, because word on the street has it that it prevents the bird flu.

4. Dried Anchovies... eyes and all.

3. Raw Octopus. The little suction-cup thingers on the octopus' legs (for lack of a better word) pop in your mouth when you chew. Not to mention, the octopus is usually chopped up while it's alive and it is usually served to you while it's still squirming. (Fortunately, the octopus I ate had been dead for a good hour before it made its way between my chopsticks.)

2. Squid. Raw, cooked, fried, whatever--I don't like it.

1. Any fish that is served with its eyes, fins, tail, bones and gills still in tact. It doesn't taste bad, it's just incredibly difficult for a chopsticks-beginner to successfully eat around all this business.

Not only are these the "Top 5 Worst Foods" in my book, but I'm actually surprised (and maybe even a little proud) that I've been able to eat each of these items at all, let alone more than once. What can I say? I amaze myself sometimes.

Wow Liz! I'm really impressed that you've eaten all of these. You are better than I.

NOTE: I've gained a few pounds since I've been here, so don't feel too sorry for me. These foods can, in fact, be avoided (the kimchi is hard to get around, but it's possible). Unless, of course, your pity encourages you to send me a package... in which case I say, "Poor me!"

Bundagi. Boiled larvae. Nothing (and I mean NOTHING) is worse than that. You know that whiff of sewer smell you get walking down the street? No, that's actually bundagi. Pass the kimchi, please.
