Pizza and Coffee

I think these are my two favorite things in life. I love to eat, drink and be merry, and pizza and coffee are the two items of choice that will make me merry. The best part? Coffee and pizza are always readily available here in Korea.

Korean pizza is a strange thing sometimes. Scratch that and make it "most of the time." The pizza sauce here is very odd and I'm not quite sure how to describe it. I don't know if tomato is anywhere to be found in the pizza sauce ingredients, but it certainly doesn't taste like it's there. The sauce reminds me of barbecue sauce more than anything. And the pizza toppings? The toppings are even weirder. You can get the normal pizza toppings like pepperoni, ham, mushrooms (gag me, please), green peppers, yadda yadda. But if you order a combination pizza, do not be surprised if you see corn and kimche included in the mix (for those of you who don't know what kimche is, it's the staple food here in Korea--pickled cabbage with some weird red sauce).

In spite of the weirdness of Korean pizza, I'm growing to love it (minus the kimche). When I eat dinner, it usually consists of pizza and gimbop (kind of like a california roll, but without the fish) and a caramel latte for dessert.

Will I lose weight while I'm here in Korea? Probably not. In fact, I think those of you back home might not even recognize me if you were to see me right now. I've gained five pounds in the past six weeks (gasp!), I have reddish hair (thanks to an impulsive moment I had right before I left the States), and Mr. Nose Ring is officially out of my nose and out of my life.
